Muffins that last a lifetime!

OK, it's been a while since I posted anything here...I've been waiting till something came along that grabbed me enough to make me want to write about it. So, what has prompted this then, I hear you ask!

Well, we've been making cakes at work, there's a little group of us....the cake club....and one of us makes a cake once a week, so we decided to all make two each this week and sell slices for Children In Need.....and very well we did too! Can't see where the connection is but that prompted me to think about the sell by dates on the cakes that you buy in the shops.

Now I'm not talking about most of the cakes that are in the supermarkets, although quite often they have a month or so on them, but in the little corner shop who sells a brand you've never heard of. You buy a cake in June and it has a shelf life till January next year!! I'm sorry, but what do they put in those cakes to make them last that long.....no cake should last 6 months and still be edible!!

Chocolate Fondant Fancies....

So there you are on a Saturday afternoon, back from shopping, with a nice cup of tea and a brand new box of 6 Fondant Fancies. Off comes the cellophane, the box is opened, and there you are confronted by the contents. Which one do you go for first? The pretty pink one (strawberry flavour)? Or maybe the yummy yellow one (lemon flavour)? Or, do you go for the boring brown one (supposedly chocolate flavoured!)? Who really likes the chocolate Fondant Fancies? I personally don't know anyone who likes them....I certainly don't!

Now I know Fondant Fancies are not everyone's cup of tea ('scuse the pun), they are certainly not the most glamorous cakes in the world, and they've probably never seen a real strawberry or lemon....I must read the ingredients next time I buy some!...but I'm pretty sure they absolutely haven't got any real chocolate in them either! "Chocolate flavour icing" would be the giveaway there!

Why do they make them? Why does there always seem to be more chocolate ones in the pack than either of the other flavours? And more importantly who actually likes them?

Why can't we have a lovely delicate Vanilla one with white icing instead?

I think we should start a campaign to abolish chocolate Fondant Fancies!!
